I just finished watching Blade Runner (Final Cut) and I still don’t get it.

For some backstory; I took a sci-fi literature elective back in college. During that class, I read one of my favorite novels of all time Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick. After reading this fantastic novel, we then proceeded to watch the film Blade Runner, which is the movie based on that very book.

I’m not sure what version we watched; either the theatrical release or the director’s cut; this was back in 2006 or 2007, so forgive my faulty memory. I just know that I remember HATING Blade Runner. I just remember my reason; It removed everything that was great about the novel. Unfortunately, that all that I can really remember. Like I mentioned before, it’s been a while.

I’ve always wanted to give Blade Runner another shot, especially since I heard that Blade Runner 2049 is very good; the timing seemed about right to watch both.

I finished the Final Cut today and I still don’t really like it. People praise the music, I hate it. The film just seems to be overly “artsy” and borning.

Sure, for 1982, the CGI and all the sets of the movie are pretty fantastic. I really want to like it, it was just a slog to get through.

I’m not going to give up entirely. I’m going to re-read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep for first time since I read it in college. Then I’m going to watch the Director’s Cut of Blade Runner and then possibly the Final Cut again; followed finally, by Blade Runner 2049.

I will hold off for writing my review of the film at this time; I really need to catch up on the novel, so I can have a comparison.

I’m curious what others think. Do you love Blade Runner? Which version do you consider the best? Have you read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
