I’m going through my favorite video games from each year of the 20-10’s with the end goal of creating my LIST OF THE DECADE!
Check out the first of this series if you haven’t yet!
My 2013 game ranking is as follows (fromĀ Giant Bomb):
2013:
1. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
2. Tomb Raider
3. DmC Devil May Cry
4. The Wolf Among Us
5. Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
6. Grand Theft Auto V
7. Diablo III (PS3)
A small, but high quality list here. Almost all of them are standouts.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Was this the start of Kojima’s wacky video game names? Is the final boss A US Senator? Can you chop fruit?

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was my game of the year for 2013. It was a really fun game. It has a wacky story; exactly what I expected from the 1-2 punch of Platinum games and Konami (Kojima). I’ll sum it up with a single word — Anime.
Tomb Raider
Tomb Raider is just a solid action adventure game. I would compare it to Uncharted, but I’ve only ever played the first one and liked Tomb Raider more (I know, I need to play the Uncharted series).

I remember the exploration, combat, shooting, puzzles — everything felt and looked great with Tomb Raider. I actually played this again on current-gen consoles, I enjoyed it that much.
Didn’t a terrible movie version of this game come out?
The Wolf Among Us
Telltale games got me with The Wolf Among Us. While I really enjoyed my time with The Walking Dead (read about it here), The Wolf Among Us really made me feel like I was in the world of the comic Fables.
A detective story with fairy tale characters living in New York City, where the Big Bad Wolf is the Private Investigator? When I heard this, I was sold. The game actually got me to purchase Fables and I’m not a “comic’s guy”.

I realized that the first episode came out in October of 2013, and the rest of the episodes came out in 2014, so The Wolf Among Us is actually on both of these year’s game of the year lists! I must have really enjoyed this first episode that much back in 2013!
Diablo III
Diablo III is already on my list for the PC version, but you know what? It makes it again for the original console release.

My friends and I all grabbed this game on PS3 and we had a blast. We played a lot online, but we had the most fun playing couch co-op. One of the best gaming experiences, I remember ever having. 4 of us hanging out, drinking and leveling up. What more could you ask for?
Also, you could now dodge roll with the right analog stick. SICK!
Honorable Mentions:
DmC Devil May Cry
Dante is cool. Always liked Dante. He and the whole world were re-imagined/ re-booted for this game and I kinda dug it. Never got the hate for Emo Dante.
I enjoy character action games, but not when they’re too hard. I actually played through and had fun with DmC. It’s just fun; You literally fight a new anchor. What’s better than that?
Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
Here’s my problem with JRPG’s; Now, I love them (or at least I think, I do), but they are long games. I played the hell out of Ni No Kuni, but I had to put it down before finishing the game. I think it’s because the Pokemon-esque leveling. Half the hours I put into this game were catching and leveling up the monsters. I play JRPGs for the story first. While I don’t mind (and usually enjoy) leveling characters, doing it for every monster in my party and every new monster I acquired drained me.

Interestingly enough, I have thought about Ni No Kuni a lot over the years. I would like to add it to my list of completed RPGs and not live forever in my embarrassing; did not finish pile. I heard that Remastered version on PS4 is pretty good (wish it were that version on the Switch).
Grand Theft Auto V
Is GTA V a good game? Yes.
Great? I think so.
Amazing? Probably?
Grand Theft Auto V is probably someone’s favorite game of all time. Maybe many would give that statement.
I had a ton fun with the game. It’s the first GTA game I actually beat.
I thought the story was hilarious and I truly wanted to know what happened next.
My memories are scarred a bit, as I always think of my Xbox 360 crashing over and over again, while while playing this. That had never happened before, or after. Luckily, I was able to make it through without losing my save.
The multiplayer isn’t for me. I have very specific requirements for multiplayer games (blog idea???) and this isn’t it. It’s a bit crazy that it’s still going strong, so I guess Rockstar knows what they’re doing.

Diablo III (Again!)
