Sony has announced that the PS3 and PS Vita PS stores will remain open! Stated in an update from Jim Ryan, the President & CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment via Playstation.Blog.
We see now that many of you are incredibly passionate about being able to continue purchasing classic games on PS3 and PS Vita for the foreseeable future, so I’m glad we were able to find a solution to continue operations.

This is great news, as gamers have been scrambling to find lists on games to purchase before the PS stores on all three consoles were scheduled to close.
Unfortunately, we only need to worry about buying and downloading PSP games, since the PSP PS store will still be closing down July 2, 2021.

Sony had to be feeling the backlash from fans, as they didn’t really give us a lot of time to deal with, purchase, and download games that would essentially be lost forever. I for one, am glad that we will have more time to play the PS3. New console generators always seem to have a lack of must-play games for the first year or so, so I have been going way back through my backlog to play games I have been meaning to play for years. Keeping the PS3 and Vita PS stores alive will help out tremendously.
It’s nice to know that Sony has listened to fans on this. This whole situation had put a bad taste in my mouth and really got me to look at what Microsoft has been up to, which led to me really enjoying my new Xbox Series S and Game Pass subscription.
Let’s hope that this news brings with a nice PS3 & Vita PSN sale.
