I’ve bought quite a bit of miniatures for Stargrave through creating that list and creating this YouTube series. I wanted to do a scale comparison for a while, as it was a much-requested feature. Painting all these minis is turning about to be quite the project, so I apologize that not all the minis shown below are painted, based, etc.
Let’s get to the Sci-Fi & Stargrave Miniature Size & Scale Comparison!
Each Mini will contain (links included):
- Brand
- Game (where applicable)
- Specific Model
- Size/Scale
All pictures also include a Space Marine (not Primaris) for size reference, as we mini painters have most likely handled at least one during our journey. Space Marines are 28mm Heroic scale.
Bases are not all the same; I used what I had, or what the minis came with.
The first size & scale comparison consists of (left to right):

CP Models – Scum & Smugglers – SCUM01 Hammer – 28mm
Corvus Belli – Infinity – Monstruckers (Submachine Gun) – 28mm
Hydra Miniatures – Retro Raygun – Zenithian Trooper – 30mm
Awaken Realms – Nemesis – Soldier (Base game set) – 32mm
Wargames Atlantic – Iron-Core – Eisenkern Stormtroopers – 28mm
For Size & Scale Reference:
Games Workshop – Warhammer 40,000 – Space Marines – Deathwatch Kill Team – 28mm Heroic
All of these minis work pretty well together. The Nemesis at 32mm is definitely large for a human, but I’d be fine with it, myself.
The second size & scale comparison consists of (left to right):

Warlord Games – Strontium Dog – Build-a-Mutie – Between 28mm – 28mm Heroic
Bombshell Miniatures – Counterblast – Lancers– Lanceguard (no longer for sale, check eBay!) – 32mm
MERCS – MERCS: Recon – House 9 – Bedouin – 28mm
Copplestone Castings – Rogue Stars – The Rogue – 28mm
North Star Military Figures – Stargrave – Stargrave Crew – 28mm
For Size & Scale Reference:
Games Workshop – Warhammer 40,000 – Space Marines – Deathwatch Kill Team – 28mm Heroic
Once again, all these mesh well, even the Shark Lanceguard at 32mm.
The third size & scale comparison consists of (left to right):

Spiral Arm Studios – Maelstrom’s Edge – Broken Units – Broken Infantry – 32mm
Khurasan Miniatures – Sci Fi 28mm – 28MM-FED-SAW Federal Army Infantry Riflemen – 28mm
Zombiesmith – A7D12 Random Aliens Passing Through (Starport) – Jau Dauoni – 28mm
CMON – Zombicide Invader – Orphans Gang – 28mm Heroic
Mantic – Deadzone – Rebs – Rebs Faction Starter / Booster – 28mm
For Size & Scale Reference:
Games Workshop – Warhammer 40,000 – Space Marines – Deathwatch Kill Team – 28mm Heroic
The third set, also, works well together. The Zombicide Invader Orphan is supposed to be a teenager, but he’s about the same size as the Deadzone Reb. Other Zombicide Invader humans may be larger.
The fourth size & scale comparison consists of (left to right):

Alternative Armies – Alternate Stars – AS000 Boudican System Trooper With SMG – 28mm
Alternative Armies – Alternate Stars – AS008 Fomor Space Raider With Laser Rifle – 28mm
Knightmare Games – Space Raiders – Chaos Orc 4 – 28mm?
Reaper Miniatures – Chronoscope – Andre Durand, Time Chaser – 25mm Heroic
Wargames Atlantic – Death Fields – Einherjar – 28mm
For Size & Scale Reference:
Games Workshop – Warhammer 40,000 – Space Marines – Deathwatch Kill Team – 28mm Heroic
This gets a little interesting. The Alien Fomor, and Orc have huge heads, but that’s expected for their design. The Chronoscope mini is 25mm Heroic, and is quite big compared to everything else we’ve seen so far. He’d easily fit in that Space Marine armor. More with him, later. Note that the Einherjar is small because he is a Space Dwarf.
Battle Systems – Core Space – Purge (Starter Set) – 32mm
Battle Systems – Core Space – Jace (Starter Set) – 32mm
Diehard Miniatures – Sci-Fi Miniatures – Lillith – Bounty Hunter – 28mm
For Size & Scale Reference:
Games Workshop – Warhammer 40,000 – Space Marines – Deathwatch Kill Team – 28mm Heroic
The Core Space minis work great with everything. Diehard Miniatures say they are 28mm, but they are HUGE. Large heads and long bodies. Take a look below.
As you can see, the Diehard Miniatures, and Reaper Chronoscope are both much larger than the Rogue Stars, and Stargrave Crew. I think the Chronoscope can blend decently with everything else, but the Diehard Miniatures mini, unfortunately, does not. You can see Lillith if standing up straight, would be as tall or taller than the Space Marine., Her head is pretty gigantic.
More with Diehard Miniatures and Reaper Chronoscope to emphasize my point; I think Chronoscope works, but Diehard doesn’t if size & scale matter to you. Not to say, I won’t paint, and use my Diehard Miniatures in:
- Stargrave
- Star Breach
- Five Parsecs From Home
- Zone Raiders
- Horizon Wars
- Space Weirdos
- Rogue Stars,
- & other mini agnostic, Sci-Fi Games
Diehard Miniatures will stand out, because they have large, exaggerated features. I’m still going to use them because they are some of my favorite mini sculpts out there. But, you have been warned.
I hope this size & scale comparison helped you decide what sci-fi miniatures to buy for Stargrave, and other Sci-Fi miniature games!
Make sure to come back to Current Kick and subscribe to the Current Kick YouTube, as I’ll be posting more miniature content!

With all the different model lines out there, this is super helpful to see how each one measures up. Thank you!

You’re welcome! I figured as much; I’ve searched for this quite a few times, myself.
I’ll update it in the future whenever I get more minis.

That’s an unfortunate comparison figure as it was a commissioned piece which when it arrived I found taller than i’d requested. Stood upright she’s taller than all other Diehard human figures. I had requested 28-30mm….

Good to know! This comparison is due for an update (always acquiring more minis), so I’ll use another of your minis as my example, as I have quite a bit more.
